The Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) was formed in 1971. It is an organization of professionals serving the legal community. The purpose of the organization is to enhance the awareness of the legal administration profession and to provide its members with the necessary resources and opportunities for growth through educational conferences, networking, and informational management materials.

The national organization is comprised of approximately 9,000 members, from solo practitioner-size firms to mega-size firms, throughout the world. There are 108 chapters, which are organized into 6 different regions. The Hawaii Chapter is a part of Region 5, which also includes the Alaska, Big Sky (Montana), Calgary, Edmonton, Idaho, Oregon, Puget Sound, and Vancouver chapters.

The profession of legal administration was created to support and enhance the practice of law by freeing attorneys from the task of management. By having legal administrators take on the responsibilities of firm management in areas such as: finance, technology, human resources, marketing, etc., attorneys are able to devote more time to their chose profession -- the practice of law. Today, the role of the legal administrator has expanded to accommodate the constant innovations in technology, the ups and downs of economic conditions, and the continuing changes in the law. Organizations like ALA are where legal administrators can seek information on the latest trends. ALA also encourages the exchange of information and ideas at the international and local chapter levels.

The Hawaii Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators in a separate legal entity from the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA). ALA licenses the use of its name, mark, logos and other protected properties to chapters which are in good standing. ALA disclaims all liability or responsibility whatsoever for the actions, representations and liabilities of the Hawaii Chapter, specifically including those of any nature whatesoever arising from or out of the content of other features related to the Hawaii Chapter Web site. In no event shall ALA be deemed the guarantor of the Hawaii Chapter.
